The Meeting Professional; September 2007; Georgia Chapter Honors Green Initiative; The MPI Georgia Chapter celebrated the success of its Green Meetings Initiative at the organization’s Phoenix Awards June 27 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. The initiative was the chapter’s first comprehensive environmental and economic strategy. By increasing the use of online correspondence, meeting materials delivery and registration, the initiative saved $2,749 in print costs—the equivalent of one-and-a-half trees. The program sponsored four events at environmentally friendly venues, saving 313 hours worth of energy through recycling efforts. Visit www.gampi.org.

The Meeting Professional; November 2007; Georgia Chapter Helps Recovering Cancún; Meetings industry professionals converged in Cancún, Mexico, for an educational program and charitable opportunity benefiting a region hit hard by previous hurricanes and on the eve of another storm. The MPI Georgia Chapter, along with other meetings industry associations, sponsored the 2007 Summer Educational Alliance (SEA) Aug. 16-19 “Opportunity Rocks” just days before Hurricane Dean, a Category Five storm, made landfall. Among the highlights of the 2007 SEA conference was the association’s charity auction, which raised funds for continuing education opportunities and included a donation of $1,500 to a local charity that supports programs for those rebuilding after hurricanes.
