The American Craft Show Goes Retro- Craft 4 Kids Artists Introduce Toys and Gifts to a New Generation of Children

ATLANTA (January 11, 2008) – While holiday shoppers got their fill of the latest gaming technology, the Craft 4 Kids artists that will be featured at The American Craft Show (March 14-16, 2008, Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta, GA) are taking a more “low-tech” approach to captivating the imaginations of children. The American Craft Show in Atlanta will showcase Craft 4 Kids artists for the second time in its 19th year of hosting this show. These artists create strikingly designed works that can serve as stand-alone display art, as well as functional toys and games for children. Of the 200-plus artists exhibiting this year, more than a dozen have created items that will fuel children’s creativity in the same way hand-crafted toys did in earlier generations.

Steve Baldwin has been creating wooden toys since the late 60’s.  He started as an industrial arts teacher, which eventually led to a woodworking hobby. His company, Baldwin Toys, is a family-operated company that handcrafts wooden toys including cars, trucks, and trains. Most of his toys also serve as puzzles, which can be taken apart and put together again.

David Levy studied design at UC Davis and now uses domestic and exotic hardwoods to create functional pieces including game boards and tables. His works include handmade checkerboards, Bocce boards, and chess tables.

Among the many items Wendy and Harry Besett create at Vermont Glass Workshop are handmade marbles. The marbles come in a variety of designs and appeal to collectors and kids.

The American Craft Show in Atlanta is accessible to all, with items for purchase ranging from $25 to thousands. Show Hours are Friday & Saturday, March 14-15: 10am-6pm; and Sunday, March 16: 10am-5pm. Ticket prices are $12 for one day; $18 for a two-day pass and children 12 and under are admitted free. American Craft Council members and those who join at the show are admitted free.
